Tears streamed down her face. Mike held her hands in his. Even when she tried to pull away, he held her tightly. His strength was comforting instead of threatening, like Kyle’s touch had been. There was a world of difference between the two men. And those differences clashed in her head and streamed straight to her heart. She didn’t know which was right and which was wrong.
Even now Kyle had a hold on her. She longed to be free of him. Longed to make her own decisions and act on her emotions. Kyle hadn’t cared about her feelings or what she wanted. He took her sunshine and turned it dark. Why did she continue to let his memory stop her from living?
The man in front of her showed more compassion, more interest than her husband ever had. Mike’s touch was comforting and deeply sensual. It forced Brooke to hold back a passion that begged to be ignited. Those feelings scared her. Brooke was stuck between feeling a duty to her dead husband, giving him one more chance, and following her gut instinct by not fighting the urge to open up to Mike.
“None of this is fair. It all needs to stop.”
Mike wiped her face, wetness covering his fingers. “Damn, Brooke.”
She looked up at him. “Make it stop, Mike.”
“Shit.” His brow knotted. He trailed a finger over her moist lips.
“Please. Make the hurt go away.”
He closed his eyes for a brief second. Opening them, he stared straight into her soul. “Baby, there is only one way I can make you forget about all of this.” He leaned down, and his lips touched hers.
She moaned and leaned into him. “Please.”
The urgency in which he undressed both of them, laid her on the queen bed, and towered above her was her undoing. The late afternoon overcast sunlight streamed in through the open curtains, casting a soft glow on Mike’s face. Her breasts peaked when his hands teased them. His lips sucked her nipples. Warmth flooded to her core. Her body squirmed beneath him, needing more. She lost herself in the kisses that covered her face.
His eyes searched hers, begging for her to let him in. All she wanted was for him to take the hurt away. She nodded, giving him her permission to complete what they both wanted. He entered her quick and hard, never taking his eyes off hers. His gaze pierced her all the way to the bottom of her soul. She gripped his hips, pulling him closer. She thought of Kyle no more. Only of Mike.
