Playboy Prince Athan is a brilliant soldier—and the world's worst boss.
Landed with the task of bringing order to his working life, dedicated personal assistant Krisia only takes on the job out of loyalty to her king.
A past disaster means Krisia is determined not to fall in love with gorgeous Athan. When she does, heartbreak isn't far behind.
Then, a secret Athan has been fighting to hide comes to light, threatening his future. Krisia must stifle her pain, and work more closely with him than ever before. If their emotions take over, they both risk losing everything...
Krisia pursed her lips. She’d let her real feelings show, which was another mistake. She smoothed out her skirt, folded her hands in her lap again and cleared her throat. “I had no choice. If it was up to me, I’d have finished my vacation the same way I started it—at the king’s side. The fact is, Athan, I’ve got to make the best of a bad situation. I need this job more than I need your approval.” Her eyes blazed, defying him to taunt her any more.
He considered his answer for a long time “That’s no basis for a happy working arrangement.”
“You forced me to tell you the truth. What more do you want? I don’t expect to be happy, Athan. All I want is to be employed. To serve my country. An honest wage for a good job well done. Nothing more.”
He stopped fidgeting. “You mean you’d rather be paid to be unhappy, than tell my brother where to get off?”
“Please don’t put words in my mouth. I haven’t any choice. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I need the money.”
He rolled his shoulders, and she realized how tense he’d been.
“Oh…money.” He stretched, a golden panther relaxing. His muscles glistened in sunlight slanting through the window, and his movements orchestrated the tinkle of his dog tags like music. “If that’s all it takes, how much will it take to make you go away and never bother me again?”
“Are you trying to buy me off?”
Narrowing his eyes, he tapped the side of his nose with his finger. “Not much gets past you, does it?”
“It was a rhetorical question.”
He rolled his eyes. Krisia jumped straight to the wrong conclusion.
