Pack of Lies by Kimila Bowling

(about this author)

  • For as long as Rae Taylor can remember, she's felt others' emotions as if they were her own. With the untimely death of her grandmother, she leaves the city and returns to the quiet town of New Haven, hoping emotions won't interfere while she mourns her loss.

Gage Archer has also returned home to New Haven and to the pack he left behind. Luke Bainer views Gage as a threat to both his growing alpha position and his attraction to Rae. Developing feelings for a woman outside the pack can be dangerous. Where Gage will do anything to keep Rae safe, Luke has other ideas.

As Rae struggles to control her special talent, no one is aware her gift is linked to a secret. A secret that could destroy Rae and the pack.

As he removed his shirt, the thought of her one day uncovering his secret entered his mind. Was she strong enough to accept him?

Her fumbling with the button of his jeans increased the intensity of his arousal and repressed his hesitation. The urgency to hold her naked body against his insisted he offer assistance. He stood and managed to work both their zippers as he planted kisses down her neck.

She tugged on his jeans. He forced himself to let her go long enough to sit, so he could unlace his boots and rid himself of his clothing. She spent the time sliding out of hers.

When they were completely nude, he paused and took in her beauty. She moved closer. He stood and met her stare before they kissed. He loved this woman and if he wanted a chance to keep her, he had to show her what he was.

He took her face in both of his hands and kissed her forehead. “You have to know something.”

“Not now,” she said, starting to kiss him.

He ran his thumb across her lips. “It has to be now.” He gently pushed her to an arm’s distance, but continued to hold her. After closing his eyes, he let his head fall back. When he brought it back up, he could see the disbelief in her eyes.

Every lean muscle on his body had turned rigid. His hair had begun to grow in length, as did the hair on his face and arms. As his hand receded from hers, his stature diminished and a more powerful creature emerged. He watched her fall to her knees and cover her eyes.

“No. No. No.” She kept repeating the word until he moved close enough for her to feel the warmth of his breath on her neck.

Quick, suspensful and completely entertaining. This book kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters come alive and before you know it you are part of the Pack. If you are looking for a great Sunday afternoon read, this is it. Be sure you give yourself enough time to read the book from start to finish, because you won't be able to put it down. Kim definitely delivered! I can't wait for the next one.
