Mike felt the biggest mistake in his life was moving away from his hometown and not asking the first love of his life Patty to go with him. Now, twelve years later he's back in town to take care of his nephews and he's hoping to get a second chance with Patty.

    Excerpt:

“We’ll be fine, won’t we boys?” I looked to the doorway where my nephews stood in their rumpled pajamas and bare feet. Danny yawned. Dustin rubbed his eyes.

“Go off to work and don’t worry about us,” I said.

My sister didn’t look convinced, but she smiled as she hugged her sons. “I really appreciate you taking care of the boys. Be good for Uncle Mike,” she warned.

Her fingers brushed against my arm. “Are you sure you can do this?” she asked looking me in the eye.

“Sara, I coached a college football team. I can easily get two boys, dressed, fed and off to school.”

She shook her head as if unconvinced, but didn’t say anything else.

Uncle Mike?s Love
by Christine Columbus

Chris Columbus has explored the heights and depths of love in this sweet short story. Mike is a drop dead handsome college football coach who considers leaving his career behind to regain the love of his high-school sweetheart. Ms. Columbus' tone is realism with a heart. This story is too good to put down until the reader finishes. The author should take pity on her fans and add a remote control with a pause button for those moments when life interrupts reading her delicious stories.

Fallen Angel Reviews - Uncle Mike?s Love

Uncle Mike?s Love by Christine Columbus is a contemporary romance.

Mike has recently returned home and is helping his niece by taking care of her sons, Dustin and Danny, before school. He has been away and is getting to know them. As you would figure, when he asks the boys about breakfast, they ask for completely different things to eat, but he surprises them by taking them out to eat. Unknown to them, Mike wants to see a home town girl Patty that he left behind when he went away to college on a football scholarship and never looked back. Ever since he has measured every woman against what he found in Patty. When Mike first sees her again, he thinks she is even more beautiful than before, but Patty is quite cool towards him while she is open and friendly to everyone else. Mike feels very jealous, and he is determined to have her special smile for him alone. Will Mike?s wish come true or will he need some help from two very special little people to make his dreams a reality?

Uncle Mike?s Love is a very heart warming short story. It reminds me that anything is possible if you give it your best try and sometimes the second time around can be better than the first. I loved how Dustin and Danny thought that they were getting one over on their Uncle Mike, but in the end they helped play matchmaker for Mike and Patty. The character of Patty was willing to forgive the past and give Mike one more chance, if others could do that the world would be a much better place. This is a cute short story and one that I would recommend for a fun and humorous read.

Santa Maria, are Chris Columbus? stories good! Her characters are very thought provoking, whether they might be peons or Queen Isabella herself. They take me to new worlds. Her stories are very easy reads, whether only a few pages long or 1492. This Nina can write. I am glad I discovered her.

I read your story last night before I went to bed?. in my estimation this was the best one yet.

The characters seemed so familiar and I could visualize the places like "Millies Cafe" on 42nd where I would go after high school for french fries for a quarter.

The neighbors Ella and Orin - and old lady Carlson.

I especially like the little things like the kids way of telling directions and the flower metaphor with the dandelion.

          Keep up the great work
