A resident of Northern Californias gold country, Janas writing reflects her chief passion: the ancient sport of falconry.
As a master falconer and energetic speaker, she works as an educator for West Coast Falconry, in Marysville, California, where future falconry apprentices attend courses to learn how to work with raptors. She has been featured with her fellow instructors on the Discovery Channels Wreckreation Nation and the Travel Channels Mancations.
Jana has served as a director for the California Hawking ClubCalifornias oldest falconry organization. She has worked on the board of the California Foundation for Birds of Prey, which rescues, rehabilitates and releases injured raptors back to the wild by using falconry-based techniques.
She has contributed articles to California Hawking, the Newsletter of the California Hawking Club and Idunna, A Journal of the Northern Tradition.
She is married with a son serving overseas as a U.S. Marine, enjoys riding her Quarter Horse, Candy, and tending to her small farm in the foothills. When not writing or educating the public on falconry, Jana spends her days in the field hunting with her Harris hawk, a hybrid falcon, and a Coopers hawk.
