The fall happened before she could stop it. In an effort to right herself, Danielle fell flat on her back, taking the balloon, and Saxon, with her. He came down on top of her in a tangle of nylon. Even though he managed to break his fall by bracing his hands on either side of her head, his big body had her pinned to the ground.
For several heartbeats they lay together, and in those moments, Danielle’s world tilted. Time stopped, and she forgot to breathe.
